Sea World San Diego

I guess that 2005 was not just a bad year for Sea World San Diego's new shows Orlando's new dolphin show is also getting ho hum reviews and just is not bring in the crowds that they were hoping for. But Orlando has nothing to rather complain about, their ticket prices have never been higher and their attendance has gone up too, placing them in the top 10 most visited US parks. Not too many years ago this position was also held by San Diego. Even with the massive amount of enlisted soldiers and their families artificially increasing the attendance numbers SeaWorld San Diego still did not even come close to the “Disney failure” aka Disney's California Adventure. There seams to be a belief that the new Shamu Show will solve everything that ails the park. This is the same philosophy that was held prior to the release of the Deep Deep Trouble show, Journey to Atlantis, Riptide, etc. With a huge advertising campaign that started in December and probably using Theme park logic continue for another 12 months after the opening of the show it seems that management betting on a success, hopefully the writers can create a show script that is as good as the props that go with it. With the upgrade to Shamu Stadium costing in the millions the chances of having the same show as before with only new special effects in the background are looking rather likely.

In the meantime until this summers release, SeaWorld guests can look forward to a rather truncated version of the Shamu Adventure in what used to be the side tank that featured underwater viewing and once held JJ the whale. This temporary amphitheater can be seen form immediate entrance into the park and is decently not concerned with visual ascetics. Then again with proper theming it could be a great addition to the parks need for more venues.

There's only 362 shopping days till...

I have been a loyal SeaWorld patron since the early '80s in fact my family built some of the “Japanese Village” now known as Forbidden Reef. Having for so long been a regular to the park I have done much shopping, expressly so during the chaotic holiday season. In the past during such events as SnowWorld at SeaWorld and other “Holiday” events the shopping experience was both fruitful and entertaining. This year however suffered form an obliteration of the holiday spirit. I understand that as a multi national corporation AB and SeaWorld must be careful not to insult other peoples faiths but this is a bit much. Not once did a single employee wish me a Happy Holidays or even a Happy New Year. No where could even “real” seasonal merchandise be found. What was being passed off as holiday ornaments were items that were sold in the park for the past 11 months now hung on a blue tree versus on a wall hook. There appeared to be a ban on any winter holiday, this coming from the company that is known for its epic add of the Clydesdales pulling the sleigh through the snow and wishing us all a happy HOLIDAY SEASON.
